Job Title:                    AR Collections Representative
Reports To:                Billing Manager
Classification:            Non-Exempt

 

 

Objective of the Position:  The objective of the AR Collections Representative is to assist the Billing Department with commercial insurance accounts, as well as any Billing Department back up support as needed.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage claims and appeals follow-up on all commercial insurance accounts
  • Manage collections for Medicare and Medi-Cal
  • Work all denials received for commercial insurance accounts; work overflow Medicare denials as assigned
  • Assist with and manage special AR projects and research as needed
  • Answer billing inquiries from patients, staff, customers and insurance companies and resolve complaints
  • Review accounts for possible assignment and make recommendations to the Billing Manager
  • Correct and resubmit claims after confirming transmission errors with the payer
  • Monitor charge entries and accounts receivable
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge on current and pending regulation and legislation as they impact billing and collection activities (Medicare, Medi-Cal)
  • Maintain compliance with all required HIPPA rules, regulations and guidelines
  • Communicate effectively with Billing Department and Director of Business Administration, keeping everyone informed and up to date on issues, trends and any relevant information

Skills / Requirements:

  • High-school diploma or equivalent (college degree preferred)
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Good problem-solving ability with sound reasoning and analysis of options
  • Equally able to work independently as well as within a team
  • Must be able to learn and interact with more technical computer applications in addition to knowledge of basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Can handle multiple requests and interruptions throughout the day as well as changing priorities and deadlines
  • Excellent multi-tasking skills
  • Fast learner with the ability to perform new tasks and duties efficiently and effectively
  • Extremely organized, detail oriented and focused
  • Can anticipate needs and potential problems and actively seek opportunities and propose solutions
  • Strong math skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information
