Job Title Wheelchair Shuttle Driver

We are looking for a friendly, professional and customer service focused individual to join Royal. Our Wheelchair Shuttle Drivers work collaboratively with our Dispatchers and Operations Department to ensure the highest quality of patient care possible, while providing an exceptional experience for our customers, patients and EMT staff.


Objective of the Position:  The Wheelchair Shuttle Driver will work collaboratively with our Fleet, Dispatch and Operations Departments to ensure the highest quality of patient care possible, while providing an exceptional experience for our customers, patients and EMT staff.

Responsibilities (include but not limited to):

  • Provide door-to-door service for special needs passengers in Contra Costa County (basic geography knowledge of surrounding counties a plus)
  • Drivers will be charged with safely positioning wheelchair passengers on special lifts and securing them using specialized restraints
  • Practice defensive and safety-conscious driving
  • Appropriately handle and anticipate the needs of patients who will not always be able to care for themselves
  • Drivers will be responsible for handling patient belongings and confidential paperwork
  • Handle protected health information (PHI) in a manner consistent with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
  • Participate in Company meetings and events
  • Demonstrate and support Royal’s Mission, Values and Quality Standards
  • Performs other such duties as may be required

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be available full-time with flexible availability
  • Be a minimum age of 21 years or older (for insurance purposes)
  • Valid California Driver’s License
  • Must have and maintain a clean driving record
  • Pass a criminal background check and driving record check
  • Must have a valid AHA CPR Card (Heartcode BLS)
  • Must be comfortable driving an extra-large vehicle
  • Be courteous with a positive attitude, and excellent customer service skills
  • Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 150 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 200 pounds
  • Current TB Test within the last year
  • Immunizations within the last 10 years (HepB, MMR, DTap, Varicella)
  • Must be punctual, self-motivated and work well with minimal supervision

Physical Requirements:

The employee is required to sit; climb or balance; step, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or carry up to 150 pounds and occasionally lift and/or carry up to 200 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
